A New Work

This morning at Calvary Monroe, we informed the congregation of a change that will be coming this spring for both the church and for my family. Here are the current details behind that announcement.

Some context.

This past September I asked my fellow elders at Calvary Monroe to honor my request to be released as a pastor/elder at the church – the culmination of a lengthy process of deep reflection that has its roots in my reshaped understanding of gospel-centered church leadership, current family needs, and my evolving sense of calling as a songwriter and worship leader. Following my resignation as an elder and while continuing to serve on staff as the music & media director, Elise and I were in committed prayer over what our next steps together would be as a family (Matthew 6:33, Psalm 37:4-5). For the next several months, we began to sense through various circumstances, conversations and investigations that God may be preparing us for another change. What or where exactly that meant (though we had an idea) we were not yet completely sure of. That’s when we asked a small circle of close friends to begin laying a foundation of prayer with us over some specific details of what we were sensing and seeing. We wanted to be able to discern clearly what the Father’s will was for us (James 1:5, Philippians 4:6-7).

We now have a clearer picture of what our next steps are, and more importantly, where our next steps are taking us.

We are moving to Texas.
Yes, that Texas, ya’ll.

The last weekend in March will be my last weekend as the music & media director at Calvary Chapel and we will be moving to AUSTIN/ROUND ROCK at the end of May. In just a couple weeks we will be heading down to San Antonio for a number of days to pray, meet with people (both friends and jobs) in both Austin and San Antonio, pray more, visit some soccer clubs (for Micah), eat some Tex Mex, In’N’Out, and have a few days of vacation. Upon our return to Seattle, we will begin a massive downsizing and sell-off/giveaway of most of our belongings so that we can take only what can fit in a 6×12 U-haul trailer we will be towing when we move.

Although we are certainly sad to leave so many in our local community, we are excited to set off on another adventure together – trusting his leading and provision for us in the midst of it all. (Philippians 4:19, Proverbs 3:5-6, Psalm 32:8-9)
